My trip has come to the end.

Today is my last day in New Zealand. I can believe how fast 6,5 months have gone. I have had excellent time. This has been such an awsome experience and can recommend it to all. People in here are very nice and helpful, which has made this whole experience really good. I wish I would have found out and done working holidays earlier, before being too old ;)  

Some day i will post more pics and stories about my last couple months in north island and New zealand. 

Seuraavat pari viikkoa reissussa

Viimeiset pari viikkoa on mennyt enimmäkseen hamiltonissa. Olen tehnyt muutamia pienempiä retkiä. Viime viikolla olin pari päivää Napierissa, joka sijaitsee itä rannikolla, noin puolessa väiissä pohjois-saarta. Halusin mennä sinne, koska siellä on paljon art deco rakennuksia ja muita nähtävyyksiä. Se on myös yksi aurinkoisimmista paikoista täällä. se kyllä piti paikaansa, aurinkoa ja lämpöä riiitti :) 

Olen myös käynyt katsomassa kaksi Super rugby peliä, tossa Waikato stadiumilla. Oon varmaan jo aikaiseeminkin sanonut, että täällä rugby on sama kuin jääkiekko suomessa. Kaikki seuraa sitä ja peleissä on tunnelmaa :) Mun suosikki joukkue Chiefs, voitti yhden pelin ja hävisi toinen ihan viime sekunneilla. Nyt ei niilä ole kotipelejä pariin viikkon, mutta enköhän mä sitten taas mene kattomaan kun pelejä one :)

Tällä viikolla sain vihdoin ja viimein aikaiseksi osallistua surffikurssille. Sitä kun olen odottanut koko täällä olo ajan et pääsis taas surffaamaan. Viime vuonna a kun tulin tänne ekan kerran niin kävin silloin kahden päivän alkeiskurssilla, mutta sen jälkeen ei oikeen ollut aikaa eikä oikeen mahdollisuutta mennä uudelleen surffaamaan. Nyttenkin olisin vaan voinut vuokrata surffilaudan, mutta halusin hieman lisää ohjausta. tämän vuoksi osallistuin kurssille, ja se sujuin hyvin, koska noin 90% pääsin laudalle seisomaan :) kurssilta sain lisää varmuutta, joten nyt vaan pitää mennä vuokraamaan lauta ja harjoitella lisää.

Viime viikonloppuna kävin Hamilton gardenissa, jossa en ole vielä tänä vuonna käynyt. Siellä oli todella plajon ihmisiä, joten se reissu jäi lyhyeksi. Siellä pitää käydä vielä uudelleen. Kävin myös Otorohangan Kiwi housella, jossa on paikallisia lintuja ja muita eläimiä. Nyt olen nähdyt livenä Kiwi:n ; siivettömän linnut, jolla on pitkä nokka sekä toisen lentokyvyttömän linnut Wekan. Pääsin myös nakemään tuataran, liskon  joka ei ole muuttunut moneen miljoonaan vuoteen. (Kuvat tulee myöhemmin)

Viime maanantaina tapasin myös Suomalaiset vaihto-opiskelijat metropoliasta. Oli mukava vaihdella kuulumisia heidän kanssaan, etenkin vaihdon aloituksesta. Heillä on melkeen kaikki ollut iahn erilaista kuin silloin kun minä tulin tänne vaihtoon viime vuonna. Minulla kaikki oli hirveen tarkkaan, että on kaikki rokotukset, todistukset, opiskelijan työvaatteet ym. Heiltä ei ole mitään näitä asioita pyydetty. 

Tulevana viikonloppuna olen menossa pohjois-saaren pohjoisosaan reissuun noin 2 viikoksi. Tämän jälkeen ei ole kuin pari viikkoa jäljellä, ja sitten on aika palata takaisin suomeen :(

South island tour

I have now started my south islands tour. I am already on my second city and leaving to my third one. My tour is following: Queenstown for 2 nights, Dunedin for 2 nights, Oamaru for 1 night, Christchurch for 2 nights, Nelson for 2 nights and Motueka/Abel tasman for 3 nights. After that I will take the ey to north island where I spend 1 night in Wellington and 2 nights in New Plymouth before going back to Hamilton. 

My plan for Queenstown was to do white water rafting but that did not happen as it was raining and the water level in the river was too high. It was really annoying as that was the only reason why I went back to Queenstown. I had been looked forward to do it for so long. Now I need to find a new place where to do it. I think it is going to be in the north island, tongariro river. 

My plan for dunedin was simple, sightseeing and visit cadbury chocolate factory. In Oamaru I am going to see the penguins, the yellow eyed ones and the blue penguins, hopefully. In Christchurch I am going to was Super Rugby, as the season starts this weekend. Then hopefully I will have chance to see some sights as it was raining last time when I was there. 

I have spent a day in Oamaru and I saw the penguins :) I saw the blue ones very close and the yellow eyed ones quite far away.  I went to tour to see them and I got private tour as I was the only one in that bus. I need to put pics to computer so I can see if I can see any penguins on the photos. In Oamaru there is lots of old historic building.

Work work and work

This is my fourth and last week working in Cromwell. Last week tuesday (27.1) was last day of the cherry season but my work did not finish. I got job picking other stone fruits and doing other jobs around the orchard. On the first couple of days, we were picking still cherries but after that we were picking apricots. I was not too keen to pick any fruits or climbing on the ladder after I fell from top of my ladder.  I was lucky that I did not hurt myself and I did not fell all the way to ground as I was holding on a branch. Other reason I did not want to pick anymore was that I was not fast enough to make above minimum wage so they could fire me not reaching minimum. Last coupleof days of last week I was pruning the cherry trees, which means that we were cutting unwanted branches off from the trees. It was really fun and it was paid hourly so no need to go fast and reach minimum :) 

Last week we had couple days of fun, too. The company organised massive bbq on thursday for the all workers as  a reward of the hard work in the cherry season. There we over 100 people and lots of food. After the bbq, me and my friend went to the river to have some drinks and swim in the river. We ended up having mud and water fight. It was really fun as it was very hot day so it was nice to cool off in the river. We could not stay too long as we all had work on the next day. 

Last weekend we did not have work because they said that there were not enough work. On saturday we had our own bbq with all the people that were still here as some of them left after the weekend. We are not allowed to have alcohol here as the accommodation so after the bbq, we went again to the river to have some drinks. I had really lazy day on sunday. I did sort and washed my stuff as I know that this is going to be my last week in here. 

This week has not been so great so far as it has been raining a lot. On monday we just had 5 hours of work before we were sent home because of rain. On tuesday we worked 1 hour in the rain piling some post before they sent us home but we went to back to work after 2,5 hours and then worked until 5:30pm. On wednesday morning we only worked for 15 min before we got sent home. We were home for 4 hours before we went to back to work and worked until 5:30pm picking peaches and more cherries :) 

Working here in cromwell has been great experience and I have met great people and got some new friends :) I can say that without them I would have not stayed this long in here. Here is no internet, and nothing to do. It takes over 1 hour to walk to town but even in there is not anything to do. 

Christmas and new year 2015

Christmas holidays I spent in Hamilton, just to having relaxing time. Christmas day was spent with Rob' s family. We had buffet type Christmas dinner/bbq. Boxing day I went to Raglan, where I saw a small 4 seater plane crash to the sea. Luckily there were lots of people so they went to help them. The passangers on the plane were hurt but not too badly :) Seeing that has put me off more about small planes as I was not big fan of them before anyway. I also went to kayaking at the Raglan harbour which was really beautiful and nice. It was my first time kayaking in the sea. 

On new year I did east coast and east cape road trip, total of over 1000km of driving. First night I spend in rotarua. There were really awsome firework display at midnight, but weather were not so nice as it was raining. Second night I spent in gisborne, after driving almost whole day throught back road in national park. On the thrid day I went to rock sliding, which was really fun. It is like a slide made of rock where is little water falling down. I was sliding it down with bodyboard and air mattress :) the water was little big too cold. Third night I spent at tolaga bay, we I did bit swimming in the ocean. Water was cold too but it did not matter as I was using my wetsuit. Fourth day was driving day too. Went to the east cape, eastest point on the new Zealand and saw the most eastest light house of the world, too. Fourth night I spent in Whakatane. Last day was spent at the beach in mount maunganui. 

Töitä ja matkustelua Etelä-saarella

Olen suunnitellut jo pitkää mun etelä-saaren reissua, mutta sitä en ole vielä tehnyt. olen etsinyt töitä jotta voisin rahoittaa reissun ja aktiviteetit jotka haluaisin tehdä. Hamiltonista töitä ei ole löytynyt. Olin hakenut jo aikaisemmin marjan poiminta paikkoja. Minulle tarjottiin töitä mansikan poimijana, mutta se olisi ollut pohjois-saaren pohjoisosassa, mutta en voinnut ottaa sitä paikkaa vastaan, koska minun olisi pitänyt olla siellä huhtikuun loppuun asti. Sitten näin uutisissa että etelä-saarella, central otagon alueella tarvitaan kirsikan poimijoita. Sain työpaikan ja nyt olen ollut reilu puolitoista viikkoa Cromwelissa kirsikan poimijana. 

Työ ei ole mitenkään unelma työtä, mutta siitä saa rahaa, joka mahdollistaa matkustelun. Kirsikoita kerätään 5 kgn laatikoihin, ja niitä laatikollisia pitää kerätä vähintään 23 7,5 tunnin aikana. Kirsikat tulee olla tietyn värisiä, kokoisia sekä niissä ei saa olla halkeamia tai mitään naarmuja. Nopeimmat kerää noin 50-60 laatikollista päivän aikana, mutta he ovat tehneet tätä jo useamman vuoden ja monta viikkoa jo. Mä saan just kerättyä sen minimin, ehkä yhden tai kaksi laatikollista yli. Enimmäkseen se on tasapainoilua 3,5 metrisellä tikkailla, ja yrittämällä olla tiputtamatta liikaa lehtiä sekä katkomatta oksia. Virheistä saa varoituksen tai joutuu päiväksi kerämään aprikooseja tai persikoita, joista maksetaan todella vähän per laatikko. Mulla on jalat mustelmilla ja kädet täynnä naarmuja ja sormenpäistä on lähtenyt nahka ja on vereslihalla. Näin paljon mustelmia ei ole ollut sen jälkeen kun lopetin rugbyn pelaamisen :) 

Täällä Cromwellissa ei ole mitään tekemistä, joten ainakin saan rahaa säästöön. Asun hedelmätarhalla työntekijöiden majoituksessa. Täällä on 3 isoa makuusalia, joissa jokaisessa on 16 sänkyä. Osa asuu myös teltoissa. Majoitustilat ovat siistit, lämmintä vettä tulee suihkusta ja pyykkiäkin voi pestä. Tässä ihan lähellä on joki, jossa on hiekkasärkkä. Siellä olemme viettäneet aikaa, kun muutakaan tekemistä ei ole. Keskustaan on reilu 5km matka, joten sinne ei kovin helposti tule lähdettyä.  Päivät tuntuu kovin pitkiltä kun työt alkaa jo klo 6 aamulla. 

Mulla oli 10 päivää putkeen töitä ennen kuin oli ekaa vapaa päivä. Kausi on jo loppupuolella, joten enää ei ole montaa päivää töitä jäljellä. Voi olla että yritän saada töitä muiden hedelmien poimijana, koska niiden kausi jatkuu vielä. Tämä kaikki riippuu siitä kauan kirsikka kausi kestää sekä kuinka paljon olen saanut rahaa säästettyä.
